Easter greetings! May God bless you and fill you with the resurrection power of Jesus Christ.

Easter is a true historical fact. It is a true fact that Jesus died on the cross for you and me voluntarily, gave his precious blood. The body of Jesus was then taken down. He was buried in a fresh tomb carved out of rock. For 3 days and 3 nights it seemed that all was lost to those who knew him. His disciples were in hiding, they were not engaged in activity because of the Passover. For them all was gloom, there seemed to be no hope. Then on the morning of the first day of the week, Sunday morning, resurrection day, Jesus came forth out of that grave alive, bodily raised from the dead. He is alive!

Matthew 28:1,5-6 1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 5The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

These are the four of the greatest words anywhere in the Bible: Matthew 28:6 “He is not here!”

John 19:11-12 11But Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

When Mary bent over into the tomb she did not find Jesus there. Jesus rose again victorious from the grave. All she found was two angels in white. Now imagine if we as a church go back in time 2000 years ago and stand outside the tomb on the resurrection Sunday. We have the Bible in our hands and if we enter the tomb and open our Bibles we can find a message inside the open and empty tomb.

The message of the resurrection is:

Romans 4:24-25 24..but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

A message of pardon is found here. Resurrection was the proof that Jesus’ sacrifice was accepted. If the sacrifice was not accepted, Jesus would have still been lying in the tomb.

Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. So part of our salvation is that Jesus died and he rose again from the dead.

a. There is a message of pardon in his Death.

Remember Jesus saying on the cross, “Father, forgive them.”

b. There is a message of pardon in his Resurrection.

The forgiveness of Jesus is completed with his resurrection. If you believe that Jesus died and rose again (Open Tomb) you will be saved. Easter is a message of pardon of our sins. Conquering death makes Him the only One ever to claim to be God and then prove it! So it is part of our salvation experience.

John 20:19-21 19On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you!” 20After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. 21Again Jesus said, Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

Notice the words of Jesus here: Jesus is reaffirming peace to his disciples. The disciples had been afraid, their leader was dead. There was no hope for them. The resurrection brought them peace. Easter is peace for those who believe in Jesus Christ in this violent world. So do not worry.

Peace is not the absence of trouble, but the presence of God. -J. Oswald Sanders

Worry is the opposite of peace. Worry is looking at God through your problems…peace is looking at your problems, through God! The enemy of peace is sin and Jesus did away with that. Today God is speaking peace into your situation and trouble.

We can receive the message of peace only if we receive the message of the pardon.

Romans 6:8-12 8Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9For we know thatsince Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.
Purity is a message found in the tomb.

a. Purity by Consideration.

11In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Count yourself – Account, mark it down.

b. Purity by Command.

V12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. It is a command to be pure.

Jesus died with our sins. He was then raised with the sins being pardoned. So when we are saved, when we ask for forgiveness of our sins, mark it down, be sure that God has cleansed us. But for those whose sins are forgiven there is a command to be pure, dead to sin. Do no sin anymore.

God is looking for purity and the world needs to see purity in us. So we must “examine ourselves”…put the divine stethoscope of God’s Word to our heart and see where we’re out of rhythm.

A lot of Christians live in sin 6 days a week and then on Sunday pray for forgiveness. It doesn’t work that way. We need God’s purity every day to help maintain holiness.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Is sin there in your thought life? Is sin there in your actions? Is sin there where you go, what you see, and what you do? What is your sin? Ask God what it is? Is it a bad habit, unfaithfulness, lack of commitment, bad friends, evil things you are spending your money on, sexual sins, ego, greed, or what? It is a command to be pure. First admit your sins. You cannot confess to God what you won’t admit to yourself. Be covered with His sinless blood! See that cross and nail everything to that cross. The devil is pulling nails as fast as he can!

True repentance is not perfection, it is a desire. True repentance is turning from sin and doing our best to head in God’s direction.

Pardon, Peace, Purity

Ephesians 1:19-20 19…and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms.

We have a message of power when God raised Christ from the dead.

a. This is a great power. V19 ..and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

b. This is a seated power. V20 ..he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms.

It is a seated means never moving, authority, constant. The resurrection power is always there for a believer. If you are operating in that power no evil can ever stand before a child of God.

Ephesians 2:4-6 4But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.

a. We have a Resurrected Position. V6 …and God raised us up with Christ

b. We have a Royal Position. V6 … seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.

He chose you and me. We are adopted into his family. I have a resurrected position and it is a royal position.

Illustration: A little boy wanted to get into the kings garden to see the lovely flowers. A guard stopped him at the gate. The prince saw this and went and got him and showed him around the garden. In a few minutes the king came out to the garden and the prince introduced the little boy to the king.

Later he was escorted back to the gate and the guard took him outside. The boy was shouting in joy, “I have seen the king, I have seen the king.” The guard asked the boy if he knew who had taken him into the garden. He said no and the guard explained it was the prince.

The little boy was given a position with the king because of the prince. Jesus Christ is our prince. We have position for Eternity because of our King, who is King of Kings and LORD of Lords, Jesus Christ.

CONCLUSION: The message of Easter is: Pardon, Peace, Purity, Power, and Position. Can Satan keep you down in your life or will you receive the pardon and be pure? Will you receive the Peace, power and position? Now Jesus is inviting you with this message.
